SOUTH ASIA

South Asia is a diverse and complex region, home to many cultures, religions and languages.

HISTORY

South Asia is a diverse and complex region, home to many cultures, religions and languages.

The region has a rich history and has been shaped by various cultural, religious and political influences over thousands of years, including the Indus Valley Civilization, the Mauritan Empire, the Mughal Empire and British colonialism. The region has various religious traditions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Sikhism.

Overall, South Asia is a fascinating and complex region that continues to be shaped by its history, culture and ongoing challenges.

Bollywood, the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, India, has had a significant influence on not only the film industries of other South Asian countries but also on popular culture throughout Asia. These movies have become popular not only in India but also in other South Asian countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, as well as in countries with significant South Asian diaspora populations, such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

We collaborated with 2nd Generation South Asian designer to get their vision of a Home

I feel that South Asian culture is underrepresented in our homes and try is quite expensive to buy traditional South Asian Household Items. As a 2nd Generation South Asian (Indian) I truly feel like my house is missing that cultural look which makes me feel disconnected to my routes.  I am passionate about creating and designing products that are inspired by South Asian culture. I love to bring warmth and a sense of home to people's living spaces. With my designs, I strive to create a space that is not only comfortable, but also reflects the culture of South Asia. I create designs that are both timeless and modern, taking into consideration all the different styles and tastes of my people . I believe that everyone deserves to feel a connection to their culture and heritage, and I am proud to be able to do this through my designs, allowing them to find a unique way to express their individual style.

HASTAKALA

South Asia has one of the finest furniture to architectural designs. The objects value is amplified by  handcrafted designs on wood. Today it's hard to find such talented craftsmen that can do such intricate designs. Specially in the UK. Due to new technology this side of design is lost. This first collection HASTAKALA is inspired by the craftsmanship. IKEA's KALLAX accessorised with wooden panels. The panels brings the essence of handmade objects. Despite, the panels being laser cut the material(wood) and patterns tie the knot.

Majority of clothes we wear is made in India, Pakistan & Bangladesh. Wrapped and draped garments appear to be the oldest form of attire in South Asia, e.g Sari(worn by women). The patterns prints on the sari are stamped on Cotton and silk fabrics Silk cloth had connotations of purity. There are a variety of different saris, they are disgusting by the pattern and material used. This has influenced the material and patterns for the collection RESHAM(silk).
